PROMINENT BLIND PERSONS IN TIMES OF THE YI DYNASTY

Abstract
This paper is based on biographical sketches and notes reviewed from the historical literature. From 14th century to 19th century, there were innumerable instances of outstanding achievement on the part of blind persons. They are basically divided into three groups such as soothsayers, noble men, and some capable blind housewives.
Blind soothsayers worked as official fortunetellers at the Royal Observatory and they wielded considerable influence over their contemporaries. The Yi Dynasty trained the blind in the art of fortunetelling.
Some high officials lost their vision adventitiously after a lengthy period of normal sight and some congenitally blind persons were renouned because of their families.
Finally. this paper describes three capable blind housewives.
